“Maureen is the one to turn to for a dose of positive energy. You will find her enjoying an active life filled with many (social) activities. Her passion for sports also means she can regularly be found rowing fanatically at the Orca rowing club. A busy schedule is no problem for her, as she is good at planning and keeping an overview, so there is always room for more fun activities. And are things not working out as planned straight away? Then she says calmly: “You’ll get there, one way or another”. Clearly giving up is not a concept she’s familiar with.
Not everyone has the opportunity to speak up, which is why she wants to represent the interests of students broadly on the Humanities Faculty Council. Because of her social character, she likes to be there for everyone. “Especially in a time when we need each other the most and the distance is greater than ever, we must be there for each other,” she says. That is why she wants to ensure that all students who experience problems receive appropriate guidance in the short term. To achieve that it is important to bring the support programs offered by the UU more to the attention of students and tutors. She also wants to work on broadening the resit regulations so more students get the chance to improve their results.”
