Positions

We represent the student perspective within the university and ensure that students are heard: not policy about students, but with students.

Lijst VUUR is a progressive student party committed to high-quality education: current, inclusive, and innovative. We are committed to a university that is accessible to everyone – regardless of background, identity, or circumstances. We want a democratic academic community that takes responsibility for people, society, and the climate. An environment with diverse perspectives, where there is room for wonder, debate, and activism. That is what we stand for.

Educational quality

VUUR considers good education to be of paramount importance. Not only should we always invest in the quality of education, but also in its accessibility, relevance, and progressiveness. Diversity and innovation are central to VUUR’s vision for the education of the future. There must always be sufficient support for both individual students and lecturers. By investing in good education, we are building a future in which every student has the opportunity to develop themselves.

VUUR stands for:
• Actual, diverse, and innovative education: students should not only acquire knowledge but also develop their own solutions and learn to think critically.
• A diverse curriculum with room for different perspectives and worldviews.
• Personal attention and customized solutions for students.
• High-quality education, with support for lecturers.

Social & Climate Responsibility

VUUR believes that the university has a role to play as a role model for society in promoting social justice and addressing societal challenges. The university must maintain its idealistic attitude and strive for a better world. The climate crisis is one of the most urgent issues of our time: it poses a threat to the survival of humanity and nature. Therefore, action must be taken now.

VUUR stands for:
• Social responsibility
• Climate-neutral university: the university must be a pioneer
• The university is not guided by financial incentives: the university is a public institution serving society and therefore not for profit
• Raising awareness: the university community must be involved in the changes needed to realize a sustainable and just future

Inclusivity & Equal Opportunities

VUUR strives for a university where everyone has equal opportunities, feels at home, and can grow. VUUR stands for a university where all perspectives and backgrounds converge. Diversity enriches education: the university must ensure a diverse and inclusive university community.

VUUR stands for:
• An accessible and inclusive university for everyone – regardless of background or identity.
• Facilities and extra attention for students, especially those for whom participating in the university community is less obvious.
• Internationalization: the international classroom, cultural appreciation, and gaining intercultural knowledge and understanding are a significant added value of education.

Student Well-being & Social Safety

At VUUR, health is a priority. The university has a duty to provide care for its students. Utrecht University must take an active role in improving and strengthening both the physical and mental well-being of students. Not only academic growth, but also personal growth is part of studying at Utrecht University.

VUUR stands for:
• Focus on mental well-being
• Social safety for students and staff, including within student organisations
• Informal preventive care
• Livability on campus: a good quality of life at the USP campus

Democratisation

VUUR envisions the university for what it can be: a place where democracy is the foundation, a figurehead and inspiration for other companies, institutions, and even states to demonstrate how governance can be implemented – together with the people that are the university community. At VUUR, we stand up for our democratic rights and believe that institutions should be assessed at all times.

VUUR stands for:
• Strengthening student representation: not policy about students, but with them
• Facilitating political expression: a constructive and safe way to conduct politically charged discussions
• The right to demonstrate as the foundation of our democracy, including at the university
• Democracy within VUUR: within VUUR, we share the same ideals, but there is room for diverse perspectives on how we achieve these ideals
